Executive Summary
He is a corporate leader with success in developing winning
teams with the energy and commitment to attain organizational
goals. He is experienced in merger and acquisition strategies
and transitions and demonstrates strong planning and budgeting
skills. He possesses a thorough knowledge of operations management,
with emphasis in distribution, including new business development,
customer service, finance, purchasing, human resources and fleet
management. He has excellent financial analysis ability and a
proven record in business turnaround.
He began his professional career as a buyer in the fast-paced
retail environment after earning a Bachelor of Science degree
in marketing at Florida State University. He soon accepted a position
as a sales manager with RedÍs Market, a leading perishable food
distributor in the Florida market where he developed a strategy
to service the cruise line industry. This strategy, along with
his strong emphasis on building customer relationships, served
as the catalyst to making the division profitable after 3 consecutive
years of losses.
In
1988, he became the Vice President and General Manager of a regional
distribution center for RedÍs Market. While there, he grew sales
from $4 million to more than $7 million and dropped operating
expenses 17 - 19%. Of special pride to him was the instatement
of programs to train and mentor employees, which resulted in significantly
reduced turnover and improved productivity. In recognition of
his efforts, his company was selected as the "Purveyor of the
Yearî by the Brevard County Chapter of the Florida Restaurant
Association for outstanding achievement in all aspects of vendor
performance.
In
1992, he and his family moved to the RedÍs Market corporate headquarters
where his acted as Executive Vice President and General Manager.
During his tenure, he created and developed a new specialty division,
bringing sales from start up to $3.5 million within the first
year. He implemented an EDI ordering program for major customers
that included paperless ordering and payments on account. He showed
consistent annual sales growth in excess of 10% each year and
exceeded budgeted profitability. He continued his efforts to create
a pleasant work environment for his employees. Central Florida
Family Magazine twice recognized his company as one of the top
ten employers for working families for promoting family values
in the workplace.
After his successes
at corporate headquarters, he was asked to lead the turnaround
of a struggling business unit, FreshPoint of Houston. He reorganized
operations and implemented a management-training program that
led to budgeted profits within 60 days. He stabilized and secured
business relationships with key customers and coordinated a merger,
establishing FreshPoint as a market leader.
Most recently,
he moved to Colorado as the President of FreshPoint of Denver,
a distribution company with supporting divisions providing food
processing and repacking production and sales in excess of $40
million. With a staff of 150, he managed all aspects of business
operations, strategies and growth. He oversaw the acquisition
and merger of a local competitor as well as the design and build-out
of a new facility. He negotiated partnership agreements with a
major supplier of and exclusive packing program for produce and
directed the conversion of the company from a manual system to
full computerization.
